5. Ideas for celebrations in the classroom.
As
children are at school in early December, it is then possible to have the
children prepare a plate with a picture of Saint Nicholas on it, or make
the boot pictured below. (see Nikolaus
Stiefel)
This can be left on their table on the afternoon
of December the 5th and in the morning can be filled with gingerbread, nuts and
lollies. However, as mentioned earlier, St Nicholas only rewards the
children who have behaved themselves. Often parents put a small rod into
the boot for the children who have not behaved.

At
our school, we have started to put a potato on the plate or in the boot.
As the potato takes up quite a bit of space, it means that the children receive
fewer goodies. Also there is always a lot of interest in the
class as to which children receive the potato.
